Meteorological balloon CPR-200, is one of the more versatile balloon shells that we use for stratospheric missions. We usually use it to lift small payloads and for less advanced experimental needs.

Weather balloons are used to probe the atmosphere by the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW). For example, it is the vertical distribution of temperature, atmospheric pressure. They are used to determine weather conditions for Poland. We use the same type of balloons for amateur stratospheric missions. Each year, many student groups associated with study circles or simply informal groups, following the example of the Copernicus Project organizes flights into the stratosphere.

The different types of weather balloons customarily coded in the name itself have their weight, which determines their technical capabilities.
For your convenience, we have highlighted 3 groups of balloons:
1. small - 100g, 200g, 350g
2. medium - 500g/600g, 800g/875g, 1000g,
3. large - 1200g, 1500g/1600g, 2000g, 3000g, 4000g

Summary and statements with technical parameters are available in our brochure - see file Meteorological Balloons Technical Parameters. We use this data to prepare the flight strategy. Based on it, we can determine the amount of gas needed and the possible weight of the capsule itself. For example, choosing the CPR-200 coating, now you know that it weighs 200g. In other words, 200 g should be added to the weight of the entire load of our mission. In addition, we must add the weight of the capsule with equipment, parachute, rigging.

In conclusion, close attention should be paid to the importance of all the elements that make up the so-called payload. Small balloons can be used for technical testing of equipment, i.e., performing test flights or sending very light payloads, such as the Vaisala RS41 radiosonde. Medium balloons are used for first ambitious missions. The recommended weight of the load, is about 250 g. Large balloons are those that allow you to lift loads weighing more than 1,000g. It gives us the greatest opportunities for experimentation.

Meteorological balloon CPR-200, is our recommended balloon coating.
